Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. Over the years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 due to its destructive impact to the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in Bloomington because it’ll help make your AC work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was built anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might look into upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately phased out. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at All Seasons Heating & A/C Co work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump more suited to your needs. Be sure to refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
