Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s circulated around your home. This liquid is found within the coils of your home’s cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants used for many, many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being phased out in response to environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. Production of R-22 will cease by 2020. Introducing R-410A Recognized by the EPA, R-410A is a chlorine-free and ozone-friendly refrigerant. R-410A will keep your AC running cool without hurting the environment. Even better news, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are made to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system function efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for reliability, quiet operation and better dehumidification, so you’re sure to stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At All Seasons Heating & A/C Co in Bloomington, our cooling models can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is hard to find. Some manufacturers sell alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
